I t has been 2 years since the Great Amazon River Raft Race and I was looking for a marathon paddling race. The Yukon River Quest popped up. 460 miles seemed a little excessive, but I figured "Why Not?" So, I followed last years race day by day as it unfolded and I even recognized a few Bay Area names. I always wanted to drive from Vancouver through the Yukon to Anchorage. Even though I'm not driving, this will be close enough... |

Ever see those old cartoons of the wimpy kid wearing the duck-shaped life preserver? For most of my life, and in many ways, that's me. I drive in the slow-lane, show up to work over an hour early (just in case traffic increases my commute time by 300%), and vigorously douse my hands with hand sanitizer anytime someone in the same building sneezes. Don't get me wrong, I like the way I am, and have no desire to change these quirks. But I would love to be able to say that just once in my life, I pushed myself to my absolute limit--and survived. To paraphrase Dorothy...460 miles of paddling, a release of liablity in case of bear-mauling, and lots of lots of germs...oh my. To new friends, shared adversity, and of course...to bragging rights. Yukon River...BRING IT ON! |

My reasons for doing this are not very long or deep. Ross and you approached me at the shop and it sounded like a very cool and epic trip. i am always looking for that unique and different adventure and this fell right into that category. I have never been up there and to spend 3 days out on the water in a remote area of the world sounds like a great adventure. It just looks like a lot of fun! |

My friend keeps getting me to do crazy things. I just hope I survive. |

I always wanted to visit the Yukon. I read about it when I was young (not that long ago). To combine this with paddling, well.......who could resist. |

Why am I doing this? Insanity possibly, but mainly because it sounds like a fun, challenging, and unique travel experience. |

I'm racing because of the challenge and to meet new people. I was born in Orange County, California on January 12th |
